House of the Dragon season 2 begins on a somber note as Rhaenyra and her family(AKA The Blacks) mourn the loss of Lucerys after his death at the end of season 1. Meanwhile, Alicent and the Hightower family(The Greens) continue their plan to install Aegon as king and begin preparing for war.
With each family hatching their plans while forces like Larys Strong and the white worm work in the shadows, the impending violence is imminent. Daemon's scheme to bring retribution for the blacks using the assassins "Blood" and "Cheese" is certain to have ripple effects throughout the season.
Does the House of the Dragon season 2 premiere effectively set the stage?
Tune in to hear our review, recap, and thoughts on these topics:
According to IMDB, "A Son for a Son" is described as: "As Alicent grows concerned by Aegon's Small Council, Rhaenyra arrives at a fateful decision." Continue the conversationSubscribe, rate, and review on Apple Podcasts Email questions to castbeyondthewall@live.com |

House of the Dragon has come a long way in its first season, and it's all been leading to this...the biggest civil war in sci-fi/fantasy on this side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In this episode of The Cast Beyond the Wall, hosts Caleb Masters and Daniel Stull are re-joined by special returning guest host, Ben Friend, to discuss what the events of this episode and cliffhanger mean for team Rhaenyra AKA "the blacks," and the viewers. Following last week's "The Green Council," which focused on the Hightowers AKA "the greens," in King's Landing, this week's episode shifts the focus to our other lead, Rhaenyra, from her base in Dragonstone. Rhaenys delivers the troubling news of both Visery's death and also Aegon II's being crowned king in her place. With Corlys "the sea snake" Velaryon making a surprise return from the brink of death to pledge support from Rhaenyra and Daemon counting dragons, it seems the Blacks are not out of the game despite lacking loyalty from many of the key lords of the seven kingdoms. The name of the game is "war," especially after Lucerys is murdered by Aemond's dragon in a chase the bards will sing about for generations to come. Does this episode provide an adequate cliffhanger to leave us wanting more for season 2? Today’s podcast topics include:
According to the IMDB synopsis, “The Black Queen” is described as: "While mourning a tragic loss, Rhaenyra tries to hold the realm together, and Daemon prepares for war." Continue the conversationSubscribe, rate, and review on Apple Podcasts Email questions to castbeyondthewall@live.com |

Everything we've seen in House of the Dragon so far has been leading up to Visery's death and the inevitably bloody fallout, and in true Game of Thrones tradition, "The Green Council," delivers a pulse-pounding episode nine race between Alicent and Otto Hightower to secure Aegon ahead of his coronation. The Cast Beyond the Wall hosts Caleb Masters and Daniel Stull are joined by first-time guest, Adam Kemp, to break down each scene of this week's episode before making predictions for what could happen next. With so much on the line, has House of the Dragon persuaded us to empathize with Alicent's point of view? Kemp brings his book reader knowledge to the especially tense episode, outlining when the show took liberties with some of the more ambiguous source material. Is this the paradigm-shifting ninth chapter we've been waiting for? Today’s podcast topics include:
According to the IMDB synopsis, “The Green Council” is described as: "While Alicent enlists Cole and Aemond to track down Aegon, Otto gathers the great houses of Westeros to affirm their allegiance." After eight episodes, The Cast Beyond the Wall is back to cover King Viserys's swan song, "The Lord of the Tides." Hosts Caleb Masters and Daniel Stull are joined by first-time guest, Chad Parizman, to discuss whether the latest chapter does King Viserys Targaryen(Paddy Considine) justice. After yet another time jump (six years in this instance), Vaemond Velaryon petitions against Lucerys Targaryen's claim as lord of Driftmark, calling them illegitimate children, after Corlys "the sea snake" Velaryon has grown deathly ill in the second war for the Stepstones. To defend their family's claim, Rhaenyra and Daemon travel to King's Landing to plead with Viserys on his deathbed. Meanwhile, Alicent and Otto Hightower plan to leverage the petition to bring Rhaenyra's entire position as heir into question. Before his final day, King Viserys sees the division in the Targaryen house and makes one last attempt to bring the families together over dinner in hopes of making peace. Though a noble effort the resentment and bad blood run deep. Does Viserys's last stand have any hope of reshaping the wars to come? Today’s podcast topics include:
According to the IMDB synopsis, “The Lord of the Tides” is described as: "Six years later. With the Driftmark succession suddenly critical, Rhaenyra attempts to strike a bargain with Rhaenys." After the death of Laena, the Targaryen and Velaryon families gather together for the funeral and wake that followed. Boiling beneath the surface were the years of resentment that have festered between Rhaenyra and Alicent. It all comes to a head after Aemond claims Laena's dragon, Vhagar, and loses his eye in a brawl with his cousins. Has House of the Dragon finally achieved its first Game of Thrones-tier feud? In this The Cast Beyond the Wall podcast discussion, returning guest Lanie James joins hosts Caleb Masters and Daniel Stull to cover the sixth chapter of House of the Dragon, "The Princess and the Queen." The story jumps forward by ten years, the most of any episode of the series yet, and introduces us to an older Rhaenyra Targaryen (now played by Emma D'Arcy) and Alicent Hightower (now played by Olivia Cooke) who have seemingly reversed their power statuses despite Rhaenyra remaining the heir to the throne. With the next generation of Targaryen and Velaryon children now being caught in the middle of the family feud as King Viserys slowly wilts away, it's only a matter of time before war breaks out. Meanwhile, as each of Westeros's most powerful women seeks to either make good with or unseat the other, "The Princess and the Queen," reveals one of the kingdom's major shadow players, Larys Strong, to the game. Does the latest time jump derail the previous episodes' momentum or does it give the story a fresh reboot bringing us closer to a satisfying conclusion? Today’s podcast topics include:
According to the IMDB synopsis, “The Princess and the Queen” is described as: "Ten years later. Rhaenyra navigates Alicent's continued speculation about her children, while Daemon and Laena weigh an offer in Pentos." Hello, lords and ladies of the realm! The Cast Beyond the Wall continues our recap and review of Game of Thrones season 8 with a look at the long-awaited series finale, "The Iron Throne." Host Caleb Masters is re-joined by co-hosts Austin Lucari and Daniel Stull to talk through the finale episode of the show and determine whether or not David Benioff and Dan Weiss stuck the landing. After last week's shocking twist in "The Bells," our characters are left picking up the pieces as they determine how they are going to restore order to Westeros in the wake of Daenerys' attack on King's Landing. In the final hour of Game of Thrones, our characters are given bittersweet sendoffs ultimately leading to a hopeful ending for the Seven Kingdoms. With so much to wrap up, were we satisfied? We run down the list of closing moments and weigh whether or not "The Iron Throne" was logical, emotionally satisfying, and true to the story George R.R. Martin set out to tell in 1996 with the release of the first novel, A Game of Thrones. This may be the last episode of Game of Thrones, but The Cast Beyond the Wall will return again next week one last time to reflect on how this final season changes the series as a whole. We'll also spend time answering your questions! Send your questions, reactions to the final season, and closing remarks to our email castbeyondthewall@live.com or send us a message on our Facebook or Twitter pages. The final points are in and with a new king in town and the last of the key players passing away, Caleb retained his lead in this year's fantasy league, but just barely. CURRENT FANTASY LEAGUE SCORES

The Cast Beyond the Wall continues our recap and review of Game of Thrones season 8 with a look at the most polarizing episode of the final stretch yet, “The Last of the Starks.” Host Caleb Masters is re-joined by co-hosts Austin Lucari and Daniel Stull to look at the controversial episode with returning guest host, Alexandra Bohannon. This transition episode is packed to the brim with scheming, plot twists, and the type of Game of Thrones fun we haven't seen since the earlier seasons. "The Last of the Starks" attempts to take the show back to its roots while also racing full speed ahead to the show's conclusion. The results are mixed at best, and it's not just because Daenerys Targaryen likes her coffee extra strong. The episode brings back memories of the past in more than one way, and for many viewers, they weren't the good memories. The cast discusses how the greatly accelerated pace is negatively impacting the final season and how some of the more frustrating scenes could be handled in more thoughtful and tasteful ways. The discussion closes out with Caleb, Austin, Daniel, and Alexandra making final predictions for who will the battle and position themselves to take the Iron Throne. As the pieces are moved into place for the final battle of the series, the Game of Thrones fantasy league continued to keep everyone (including Austin the two-time dragon murderer) on their toes. Hello, lords and ladies of the realm! The Cast Beyond the Wall continues our recap and review of Game of Thrones season 8 with a look at one of the most highly anticipated television episodes of the year, “The Long Night.” Host Caleb Masters is re-joined by co-hosts Austin Lucari and Daniel Stull to look at one of Game of Thrones' most ambitious battles to date. To commemorate the special "battle episode" occasion, we're joined again by GoodTrash Media's own Dalton Stuart. For more than seven seasons and eight years of TV, Game of Thrones fans have awaited the arrival of the white walkers, and finally, in "The Long Night," their forces mount an attack on Winterfell. The battle that ensues in unlike any we've seen before in modern pop culture. With all of the complaints about the darker lighting, do we think it spoils the episode? We discuss the benefits and drawbacks of director Miguel Sapochnik's technical decisions in an otherwise impactful episode. Heading into the season, few of us expected the Night King and white walker threat to be dispatched so quickly three episodes before the series finale. As we begin closing the book on Game of Thrones, we beg the question again--is the show becoming too conventional? Caleb, Danial, and Austin hash it out while Dalton provides some additional predictions about what the switch could mean for the remainder of the season. This is the biggest moments in 2019 for pop culture and we leave no stone unturned as we determine how well it worked and what it means for the future of fantasy on TV. The epic battle also provided game-changing results for this year's Game of Thrones fantasy league Take a look at the latest results! CURRENT FANTASY LEAGUE SCORES

Hello, lords and ladies of the realm! The Cast Beyond the Wall continues our recap and review of Game of Thrones season 8 with a look at the latest episode, "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms." Host Caleb Masters is re-joined by co-hosts Austin Lucari and Daniel Stull to do a scene by scene breakdown of one of the year’s most anticipated events in entertainment. Rounding out one of our favorite The Cast Beyond the Wall traditions, we are paid our annual visit from recurring guest host, Ben Friend. “A Knight in the Seven Kingdoms” slowed things down one last time before the show heads into its climactic final chapters by spending quality time with our favorite surviving characters. After arriving in Winterfell, Jaime Lannister is immediately questioned about his loyalty in the face of his family's oldest enemies. After making peace, he is reunited with his closest friends, his brother Tyrion and Brienne of Tarth for a trip down memory lane. The trip ends in what will likely be one of the most iconic moments of the series, the knighting of Ser Brienne of Tarth by Ser Jaime Lannister. While many of our characters spend their final hours drinking, finding love or spending time with those who mean the most, Daenerys Targareyn continues to seek reassurance and loyalty from those who would fight alongside her. Jon reveals his heritage to Dany, but is unable to make amends or resolve the conflict before the White Walker army arrives at Winterfell. This is an emotionally somber episode filled with the classic Game of Thrones "talking and scheming in chambers" moments that have been far fewer in recent seasons. We close out our conversation by picking the most likely deaths in the epic battle for Winterfell. Tune in to hear the scene by scene review and break down from Caleb, Austin, Daniel, and this week's guest Ben Friend. |

Hello, lords and ladies of the realm! After playing chicken with a pair of Dany's dragons and the lengthiest hiatus yet, The Cast Beyond the Wall has returned with recap and review of the Game of Thrones season 8 premiere, "Winterfell." Host Caleb Masters is re-joined by co-hosts Austin Lucari and Daniel Stull to do a scene by scene breakdown of one of the year's most anticipated events in entertainment. "Winterfell" started with a throwback to the very first episode of Thrones as Jon Snow and Daenerys Stormborn reached the end of their trip up the Kingsroad to the titular castle. The extra soldiers to fight the dead may be appreciated, but the tension and skepticism between the mother of dragons and the northerners, including Sansa Stark, is uneasy at best. The alliance between houses Stark and Targaryen may not be a sealed deal yet, but the episode provided a number of long-awaited reunions between our characters. For the first time since season one's second episode "The Kingsroad," Arya Stark and Jon Snow are reunited in what may be one of the most heartwarming moments of the series. Not every character meeting is quite so happy. In a very Thrones-esque twist, Samwell Tarley learns the grisly fates of his father and brother when he reconnects with Jorah Mormont and meets Daenerys for the first time. All of this is capped off with Sam revealing Jon's true heritage. The Cast Beyond the Wall is back recapping each and every moment with Caleb, Daniel, and Austin locking in predictions and laying out their final theories as they evaluate whether or not "Winterfell" successfully kicks off the final season. To keep the stakes high for the final season, the Game of Thrones fantasy league is back! CURRENT FANTASY LEAGUE SCORES

Hello, lords and ladies of the realm! After dueling with the podcasting white walker overlords and the lengthiest hiatus yet, The Cast Beyond the Wall has returned with a full preview of the final season of Game of Thrones. Caleb is re-joined by co-hosts Austin Lucari and Daniel Stull to look back at last year’s greatest hits before they make their predictions on the twists, backstabbings, and deaths ahead in the final six episodes of Game of Thrones. The podcast kicks off with a brief look back at the highs and lows of season 7 before the cast breaks down the position of each main character and the role they'll play in the final storylines. Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen have taken their forces north to Winterfell to prepare for the Night King's armies who are marching south after the attack on Eastwatch. South in King’s Landing, Cersei has conspired with Euron Greyjoy to break her oath and betray Jon and Daenerys by retaking Westeros while her adversaries are fighting the army of the dead. After discovering this plot, Jaime left Cersei to join the forces fighting in the north. With her enemies vulnerable, will her plan to retake Westeros prove successful or threatening to the heroes waging war with the wights? One potential threat to her plan is Theon Greyjoy's mission to rescue his sister, Yara, from the cartoonish clutches or Euron and his newly recruited Golden Company. With Theon's redemption all but complete, can his small team of Iron Islanders do enough to sabotage Cersei's scheme? All of these questions and more will be discussed in this final season preview. To close out the conversation, The Cast Beyond the Wall reveals the plans to bring back the fan favorite Game of Thrones Fantasy League. Once again, Caleb, Austin, and Daniel will play in this year's year’s special Fantasy League put on by The Verge. Start placing your bets now, because these stakes and results are coming in hot! The final season of Game of Thrones is bittersweet and The Cast Beyond the Wall will be there with you each and every step of the way. When the dust settles, all debts will be paid and the chilling winter winds will blow over the graves of our favorite fallen characters. After more than a year of being on hiatus, it's time to rally the realm. The Cast Beyond the Wall has returned with a full preview of season 7! Caleb is re-joined by Austin and Daniel to look back at last year's greatest hits before making their predictions of the twists, backstabbings, and deaths ahead in Game of Thrones season 7. The podcast kicks the conversation off by reflecting on the treachery going on in the north. Jon Snow may have been declared the new King in the North, but Sansa and Petyr Baelish have other ideas about who should actually rule the seven kingdoms. With Bran and Arya both making their way to Winterfell, it appears there may be a happy moment for the star family yet. South in King's Landing, Cersei has just taken the crown after blowing up all of her enemies including Queen Margery in Sept with wildfire. She continues to have Jamie standing uncomfortably by her side as she waits for the inevitable encounter from Daenerys and her legions. Hello, again milords and ladies! Welcome to our special Game of Thrones season 6 wrap up episode of The Cast Beyond the Wall. This season was a big game changer in a number of ways, and for better or for worse the meticulous character development we've been used to take a back seat in favor of the breakneck speed of the plot. We finally saw the Greyjoys come back into the fold in the way Austin always wanted and the season even wrapped with Daenerys finally on her voyage to Westeros. This is the season showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss ran out of book material adapt and stepped completely out on their own. This season also marked a notable turnaround for women in Westeros. In earlier seasons most of them were repressed by their husbands, the patriarchy of the world, or even by their own missteps, but this year Daenerys, Cersei, Yara Greyjoy, Sansa Stark, and many others claimed the most powerful positions in the world of Game of Thrones. No matter the quality, this will be one of the seasons that define the show in the years to come. In our special wrap up episode, Austin, Alex, Daniel, and I play a little game to make the season ender a bit more interesting. If you look at the picture below, you can see we have a bracket filled with different storylines from season 6. These storylines will be pitted against each other and the victor will be decided by group vote. To spice things up a big, we give each host the option to use a "Melissandre Resurrection" to bring one storyline back an placed in a separate bracket. In the end, the winner of the original bracket will go up against the winner of the resurrected losers bracket. It's a fun way to wrap up the season discussion! Like what you hear? Game of Thrones season 6 comes to a close with what has now been confirmed as the final episode 10 of the series with The Winds of Winter. This extra long finale was jam-packed with long-awaited reveals, climactic plot twists, and the set up for what looks to be the series' final stretch toward the endgame. The Cast Beyond the Wall is here to help you process what is arguably one of the best hours of TV in the last five years. It's been a theme running throughout the entire season, but last night cemented the rise to total power for all of our leading ladies including Sansa, Daenerys, and Cersie. Despite Jon being hailed as the new "King ind in the North"," Sansa still holds a key influence in retaking the north for House Stark and likely heading south. Cersei has remained somber for most of this season and it seems we were all correct in assuming that she was going to make a huge bloody action in the name of vengeance. We knew it was going to be huge move, but we never expected her to Michael Corleone the entire Tyrell regime. It was a swift move that's left her with unquestioned power and it came at the cost of her son Tommen and what was left of her humanity. Austin, Daniel, and I are all very excited to talk about the high bar this episode set for future episodes. This may be the season 6 finale, but The Cast Beyond the Wall will return for at least two more episodes this year! Next week we will be doing a season 6 wrap up with the rest of the GoodTrash gang followed by a special episode taking a closer look at women in Game of Thrones and whether or not the show is actually misogynist(this finale doth protest). Game of Thrones never fails to have an eventful episode 9 and season 6's The Battle of the Bastards was no exception. On this week's The Cast Beyond the Wall, Daniel, Austin, and myself break down the highly anticipated battle sequence and whether or not it lives up to some of the other series climactic battles. Jon Snow has seen white walkers at Hardhome, defended the Wall outmatched a hundred to one, and even been brought back from the dead, but that doesn't make him any less a Stark. Leading up to the Battle, Jon scrapes together a strategy and ignores Sansa's advice not to go into battle. Sansa on the other hand continues to withhold the crucial info about Petyr Baelish's armies from the Eerie. Have Ramsey and Littlefinger compromised the elder Stark or was this just a rookie mistake? Despite the title of the episode, this week also featured the biggest set piece we've ever seen in Mereen. Danerys rides Drogon and decimates entire ships from The Masters' fleet while Dario leads a full fledged ground assault with the Dothraki horde. Following the flawless victory, Theon and Yara Greyjoy arrive and request independence for the Iron Islands if they support her claim. We take a moment to discuss the issues with the season's continued abbreviation, particularly as it relates to Mereen. Has Dany's time to cross the Narrow Sea FINALLY come? For the sake of my sanity, let's hope so. The Battle of the Bastards may contain not just one, but two of the finest action set pieces the series has ever seen, but I make the case that it lacks the magical secret sauce that makes Game of Thrones special. Austin and Daniel on the other hand were enamored by the undeniably impressive spectacle.

Game of Thrones brought us yet another resurrection this week with the surprising return of fan favorite Sandor "The Hound" Clegane. With Jon, Benjen, and now our favorite chicken eating killer back is it possible that Westeros is starting to feel a little bit too safe? The Cast Beyond the Wall investigates this phenomenon along with the rest of the big reveals from this week's episode The Broken Man. Austin, Daniel and I give our initial reactions before diving into our scene by scene recap. This week was another great table-setter that featured a little bit more of the classic Game of Thrones monologuing that's been lacking in the breakneck pacing of the season so far. Margery proves that she's got the High Sparrow handled in her own way and even sends Lady Olenna Tyrell back to High Garden. Further north, the Starks have apparently discovered a magical means of teleportation as they recruit what's left of the northern houses. After suffering from a couple of lame storylines, it looks like Jaime's banishment from King's Landing might be the most interesting thing to happen to him in seasons. He's joined by Bronn as he's forced to retake Riverrun from the Blackfish. For those of you who may have forgotten, Brynden "The Blackfish" Tully, is Catelyn Stark's Uncle who escaped the clutches of The Red Wedding. Like what you hear? We've crossed the halfway mark of Game of Thrones season 6 and the show continues to show no sign of slowing down. Blood of my Blood marks yet another episode of reveals on longstanding mysteries for both book readers and show watchers. The gents of The Cast Beyond the Wall are joined by GoodTrash Media's very own Frightful Femme, Kirsten Therkelson. Things pick up with Bran immediately after last week's tragic sacrifice when he and Meera are rescued by none other than long lost Uncle Benjen Stark. After being attacked by white walkers, he's more zombie now than man, but he remains loyal to the Three-Eyed Raven. We talk a bit about the somewhat anti-climatic reveal as well as the meaning of the flashes of Westerosi history witnessed by Bran. After a week off, the show returned the wretched hive of scum and villainy of King's Landing. This week saw Margery and Tommen making a deal with the High Sparrow which gave him the upper hand when faced with Jaime and the Tyrell army. It was a surprising turn of events that led to Jaime's being set to Riverrun. That's right! After nearly fading into obscurity, Game of Thrones is heading back to the Riverlands to revisit the home of one Walder Frey. We discuss what this could mean heading into what appear to be the final chapter of the show. Like what you hear? Help us produce even more by supporting us on Patreon! |

The ink has dried, the book has been written, and the door has closed on the life of Hodor the half-giant. This week's episode of Game of Thrones suffered one of the most emotional losses the show has seen yet and your hosts at The Cast Beyond the Wall are still cleaning up the tissues leading into this week's show. Hodor's sacrifice in The Door won't be forgotten, but we'd be remiss if we didn't talk about some of the other major turns and reveal throughout the episode. The Cast of Caleb, Daniel, and Austin continue their tradition of inviting a guest to the rotating fourth host spot by talking with the director the upcoming Oklahoma film, Electric Nostalgia. When he's not working on releasing his film or producing his interview web series called Talkies, Jacob is also an avid Game of Thrones watcher with more than a few things to say about the series. This week's conversation has us talking about the unintended consequences of many of our heroes including the fallout between Sansa and Littlefinger, Bran's misuse of his own powers, and the outcome of the highly anticipated Kingsmoot. Before paying last respects to Hodor, we discuss the implications of Brans impact on the past and how this brings an entirely new element of time travel into the show's DNA. Game of Thrones season 6 continues to sail its Greyjoy ships full speed ahead in this week's episode Book of the Stranger. Every minute of this episode is packed tight with some of the very best Game of Thrones and The Cast Beyond the Wall brings the fire and the analysis to this week's particularly eventful episode. This week, the Cast is joined by one the co-founders of GoodTrash Media and host of The Film Syllabus, Alexandra Bohannon. Book of the Stranger featured many crowd pleasing moments, but none as long awaited or emotional as the first Stark Reunion. We laughed, we cried, and somewhere George RR Martin felt a deep disturbance in his source material(probably). At long last, Daniel's dreams of whimsey and Stark victory seemed within grasp right before the rest of the team shuts him down by talking the rather unfortunate demise of Osha at the hands of Ramsey. Austin coins the term "Post-Martinism" as we discuss the unusually optimistic turn of events in nearly every storyline this week. After being MIA for more than five episodes, Petyr "Littlefinger" Baelish returns and it looks like he's bringing his army from the Eerie into the fold. After experiencing a moment of uncharacteristic fanboy excited, I discuss what his move could mean for the wars to come. If all of the other heartwarming cheer moments weren't enough for you, Daenerys finally returned to form by reminding us all why she doesn't need dragons, unsullied, or knight's to be the epic leader that has been promised. Whether its religious zealotry or Game of Thrones failure to the LGBTQ characters, The Cast Beyond the Wall has this an every episode covered. What did you think of Book of the Stranger? The Cast Beyond the Wall returns with more Westerosi recapping goodness this week as they give us the breakdown of season 6 episode 3, Oathbreaker. This Bran's latest dream sequence, Cersei's latest scheme against the Tyrells, and Arya Stark's latest training montage. This week may be lighter on shocking twists and turns, but that doesn't keep it from delivering the old school scheming and verbal sparring that made Game of Thrones a household name. This week has us delving even further down the R+L=J rabbit hole as Caleb, Austin, and Daniel discuss the highly anticipated battle between Ned Stark and Arthur Dayne. Just before getting to the real meat and potatoes of the flashback, Max von Sydow's Three-Eyed Raven swoops in to remove Bran from the greater mystery of the past. The rest of Westeros continues to be in a state of decay as King Tommen continues to be the world's biggest pushover, the small council is divided between Lannister and Tyrell, and the North's leadership is slowly crumbling to the feet of Ramsey Bolton. This week continues to be dialog driven set up with a few surprises including the Jon Snow's final decision as the the Lord Commander of the Night's Watch. Essos continues to be a real snooze fest with Arya's training spinning its wheels while Daenerys continues to retread her old narrative stomping grounds. The show continues to move at a rapid pace and the gang here at The Cast Beyond the Wall are excited to lay out their favorite theories and predictions. What are your thought on Oathkeeper? Game of Thrones season 6 returned with a notably strong sophomore outing filled major coups, unexpected plot turns, and even a little bit of Tyrion dragon whispering action. The Cast Beyond the Wall is back to recap, theorize, and analyze the scene by scene break down of a scene by scene betrayals. This week marks the return of the majorly MIA Greyjoys. After being away from the action for years, it looks the House is back to sow some major storylines. What better way to mark the return of the "winner" of the War of the five kings than a good old fashion pirate mutiny. Austin chimes in with his thoughts on Balon's mysterious brother and what it could mean for later in the season. There are a number of cool moments including Jaime's standoff with High Sparrow, but the really moving and shaking in this episode was happening in the North. In a shocking turn of events, Ramsey Bolton finally crossed the line and took out Roose. We try to decide how many of the Bolton's numbered days are left. We also can't wrap up the discussion without talking Bran's newfound superpower to look into the past or Jon Snow's awakening. What did you think of the closing moments, and will the Greyjoys make a major return this year? Sound off in comments and we'll read your thoughts on air next week! After nearly a year of waiting, Game of Thrones has returned to kick off season 6 with a nice bit of set up and a couple of surprising twists in The Red Woman. The Cast Beyond the Wall returns with your guide to all of the biggest moments of the episode followed by some exciting fan theories and analysis looking at what this episode is all about. The Cast's hosts Caleb Masters, Austin Lucari, and Daniel Stull are joined by Dalton Stuart of The GoodTrash Genrecast and The People's History of Film to travel from the the water gardens of Dorne all the way to the furthest reaches of Mereen in this week's recap. The Red Woman serves more or less as a pretty standard Game of Throne premiere by checking in with most of the major players while also planting a few seeds for the bigger things yet to come. Showrunners DB. Weiss and David Benioff open with a sequence at the wall that removes any doubt the audience had. Jon Snow is dead. For now. Further south, Jaime and Cersei are reunited to mourn the loss of their daughter Myrcella at the hands of Ellaria Sand. Lena Headey steals the spotlight as the episode's MVP in one of the character's most vulnerable scenes to date. To cap off the episode, our hosts talk about how this season seems to be pushing the ladies of Westeros to the forefront and the more optimistic tone when compared to the somewhat dour downtrodden tone of season 5.

Season 5 of Game of Thrones came to a close with the season finale, Mother's Mercy. The Cast Beyond the Wall is here to discuss what amounted to one of the most action-packed episodes of the entire series. Following the ultimate sacrifice of Shireen, Stannis prepared to attack Winterfell. In what had been prophecized as his defining moment, everything Stannis had killed for crumbled in mere moments. After being crushed by the Bolton army, Stannis fled into the woods where he would finally encounter the fan favorite Brienne of Tarth. We discuss the storyline that has been building to this moment for years. Despite the slow build up, it looks like we'll have to wait just a little bit longer to learn the fate of the fallen Baratheon. Our final trip to King's Landing this year took us to an unusual place as we finally felt sympathy for Cersei Baratheon as she "atoned" for her sins by making the demoralizing walk of shame to the Red Keep. Cersei is easily one of more villainess characters on the show, but watching the long walk was one of the most difficult scenes any of us had to sit through. We talk about her arc this season so far and whether or not her lowest moment could send her out to find redemption. Across the sea in Bravvos, Arya finally got some much-needed traction to what has been one of her more uneventful stories. After crossing the despised Meryn Trant off of her death list, we try to make sense of seemingly omniscient powers of the Faceless Men. We also head back to Mereen where Tyrion, Jorah, and Daario make plans to find Danerys back to the city. Game of Thrones left us on an especially distressing note as Jon Snow seems to have met a cruel fate at the hands of his own men of the Night's Watch. It may seem like a pretty definitely period to what has been a notably bleak season, but we all tune in with our own thoughts and theories about the ultimate fate of the famed bastard of Winterfell.

Just when you didn't think Game of Thrones could get any better than a white walker army, we get Daenerys Targarian mounting Drogon to round out an epic battle in the Merenese arena. The Cast Beyond the Wall is back to talk about the rise of Daenerys Targaryen and the fall of Stannis Baratheon in this week's episode, The Dance of Dragons. The Sons of the Harpy finally made another move against Daenerys as they upended the tournament in the fighting pits and began killing everyone including the despised Hizdahr zo Loraq. After being banished twice and killing a few men in the process, it looks like Jorah has finally won back Dany trust after chucking the so called spear of destiny one of her assassins. Arya's storyline continues to crawl to a climax as she has a run in with Meryn Trant when he arrives in Braavos with Mace Tyrell. Her season arc has been promising, but is really lacking the progress or urgency of some of her past story lines. Daniel and I get into a heated discussion whether or not we've like the slower pace. Dorne continues to be one of the absolute worst side treks in the history of the show and we spend a few minutes trying to figure out exactly what went wrong with our favorite Lannister/Bronn pairing. After a season of building our trust by aligning himself with Jon Snow and promising justice in the North, Stannis finally crossed the point of no return when he decided to burn his daughter. We've never been the biggest Stannis the Mannis fans on the podcast, but we discuss the high hopes we had for him before took a nosedive into desperation. This was an episode of the highest of highs and lowest of lows and we try to lay our final verdict on the seasons infamous episode 9. Where does it fall in comparison to the earlier seasons? Tune in to find out! Enjoy the show! Don't miss all of the latest Game of Thrones updates at We Got This Covered |

After a season light world breaking events, this week's episode of Game of Thrones, Hardhome delivered one of the biggest moments in the history of the show so far. The wait for winter is over and the White Walkers have finally arrived in truly terrifying fashion to slaughter what's left of the Wildling army. The Cast Beyond the Wall is here to discuss this game-changing defeat by the elusive Night's King and how it reframes the story of the entire series so far. Before getting to the titular event, we talk about the hotly anticipated pairing of Tyrion and Daenerys in Mereen. The two deliver a couple of the best scenes so far this season and we take a moment to try and unpack their dynamics. Hardhome also takes a moment to catch up with Arya in Braavos as she prepares to take on her first assignment from the Faceless Men. We try to decide if she's ready to go full Batman after months of training in The House of Black and White. We also take a moment to discuss Sansa's discovery of the truth about Bran and Rickon. After being beaten up by the monstrous Ramsey Bolton all season, she's finally starting to discover the drive she'll need to survive the trials she ahead. Theon may be broken beyond repair, but after learning the truth about her family it looks like she's about to become stronger than ever. We go in depth into every scene of what is undoubtedly the best episode of the season so far. Does it top some of the biggest moments from the Red Wedding, Battle of Blackwater, or Purple Wedding? Tune in and make sure to let us think in the comments below! Don't miss all of the latest Game of Thrones updates at We Got This Covered |

It's been a slow burn so far in this season of Game of Thrones, but the latest episode "The Gift" finally delivers on a few of the promises laid down over the last few episodes. The Cast Beyond the Wall is here to talk about some of the most anticipated moments of the entire series including Tyrion's meeting with Daenerys and Cersei's swift self-imposed downfall. Did they live up to the five seasons worth of build up? The Lannisters weren't the only family getting some great material this week. Further north, Stannis is faced with the decision of whether or not to sacrifice his daughter to ensure he defeats the Bolton's in battle. House Baratheon has made some pretty impressive strides in redeeming Stannis this year, but it seems as if he's faced with a choice that could define the legacy of his character. Dorne continues to be one of the most poorly executed storylines in the history of the show. Between Jamie's failure to win over Myrcella and Bronn's half baked piece of fan service in the jail cell, it's not shaping up to be everything Oberyn promised us. Tune in to hear our in-depth thoughts on each scene of The Gift. Enjoy the show! Don't miss all of the latest Game of Thrones updates at We Got This Covered |

Game of Thrones got heated in this week's episode Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken as Sansa's return to Winterfell turned dark. In our discussion on The Cast Beyond the Wall, we delve into "the scene" that sent the internet spinning into a controversial tizzy early this week. Before we tackle the hot button topic, we take a look at some of the episode's more prominent moments including Jorah's reflection on his daddy issues with the Jeor Mormont. Our favorite fallen knight and his dwarven companion Tyrion continue to steal the show on their journey to join Daenerys in Mereen. After the pirate kidnapping, there's only one question left to ask. Where have the Westerosi cock merchants been hiding? After a few weeks away, Arya returns to further explore the depths of the House of Black and White. It turns out, she's not the liar we all thought she was when faced eye to eye with Jaqen H'ghar. King's Landing continues to crumble at the hands of Cersei Lannister in her crusade to keep Margery from taking the seven kingdoms. Olenna Tyrell returns to even the odds, but that doesn't keep the Queen Mother from dragging Loras's name through the mud in a procedural hearing. The titular storyline featuring Jamie and Bronn's mission into dorm falls flat no thanks to a few missteps in the fight choreography and rushed storytelling. We break down all the reasons this plot thread has been dragging and offer a few suggestions on how to send it bouncing back. This episode has been one of the most polarizing yet and we lay down the hammer with our reviews and scene by scene discussion. Don't miss it! This week’s episode of Game of Thrones may not have quite packed the same level of action that we’ve become used to, but “Kill the Boy” didn’t disappoint in its character drama and we’re ready to dive right into all of it. On this installment of The Cast Beyond the Wall, we’re joined by special guests Dalton Stuart and Jessica Martin to discuss all of the latest developments in the north side of Westeros. We were all shocked by the passing of Ser Barristan after last week’s cliffhanger and we try to decide whether or not showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss gave the understated fan favorite his due. In the fallout of his death, Daenerys makes a vengeful decision to begin burning the former slave owners alive. It may not be one of the most diplomatic solutions, but we chime in with our thoughts on how well her moves will play with the rest of Mereen. This season of Game of Thrones continues to give Stannis knock out moments and this week was no exception. The self-declared king continues to win us over with his respectable decisions and great one on one talks with all of our favorite characters. Before finally departing the wall, Stannis has a few last words with Jon Snow and Samwell Tarly. After decapitating the despicable Janos Slynt a couple of episodes back, Jon continues to make controversial moves in his role as Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch. We take a closer look at his polarizing decision to work with the wildlings and set the likes of Ollie against him. The family drama in Winterfell began to ramp up this week as well now that Sansa is starting to settle into her old home. After years of being apart, she is finally reunited with Theon and the results are truly twisted. There’s certainly a lot to discuss this week and as always, we break it all down in our lengthy and in-depth discussion. Tune in below and be sure to leave a comment letting us know what you thought of “Kill the Boy.” Don't miss all of the latest Game of Thrones updates at We Got This Covered |

This week’s episode of Game of Thrones was season 5’s most action-packed installment yet, thanks to the rise of the Faith Militant and the growing threat of the Sons of the Harpy. Joining us in our in-depth discussion of the events that took place is We Got This Covered writer Sam Woolf, who has some of his own interesting theories and reactions to this week’s shocking cliffhanger. In case you missed it, “Sons of the Harpy” ramped up the events in King’s Landing when Cersei decided to arm the Faith Militant and name the High Sparrow the High Septon of the realm. She taunted Margery by having the Sparrows arrest Loras Tyrell for crimes against the gods and left the newly crowned King Tommen to pick up the pieces. While all hell broke loose in the capital, Jamie and Bronn landed in Dorne and continued their suicide rescue mission for Princess Myrcella. The Dornish storyline also brought us our first look at Oberyn’s bastards, known as the Sand Snakes, and we try to decide if they live up to his legend. In northern Westeros, Jon Snow survived Melissandre’s first seduction attempt while Stannis finally revealed the softer side of his hardened heart. He continues to be one of the most controversial characters on the show and we weigh in on the merit of his methods, intentions and recently discovered love for his daughter. Finally, we round out this week’s exciting discussion by talking about the climactic skirmish between Greyworm, Barristan Selmy and a band of harpies that had us clamoring for more. Will Barristan pull out of the battle in one piece, or have we seen the last of the greatest living night in Westeros? Tune into the latest episode of The Cast Beyond The Wall to find out!

High Sparrow was the most eventful Game of Thrones episode so far this season and The Cast Beyond the Wall is back to break down some of the most shocking moments. High Sparrow brought us one of Jon Snow's most character defining moments yet as he put Janos Slynt's head to on the chopping block. His first act as Lord Commander of the Night's Watch was undoubtedly a bold one we've been waiting to talk about. Is Jon laying down the law or planting the seeds of betrayal among his men? The north was chocked full of shocking twists, but none of them as surprising as Sansa's planned betrothal to known sociopath Ramsey Bolton. What does this mean for the last known Stark and Littlefinger's grand masterplan? Daniel, Austin, and I talk all of the possible moves and the brilliance of the strategy to take Westeros. In what seems like the first time in Game of Thrones history, the series featured a wedding going as planned. Margery has finally taken the claim to power in King's Landing and Cersei isn't taking it well. What exactly does her alliance with the High Sparrow mean in her plot to undermind Margery? This week was full of classic Game of Thrones moments and we've got each and every moment covered in our glorious pop culture filled discussion. Game of Thrones returned for another one of its finest hours packed with dragons, faceless men, and even the beginnings of a slave uprising. Join us on The Cast Beyond the Wall as we delve into the trickiest moral dilemmas The House of Black and White had to offer. The latest episode finally brought us up to speed with Arya as she arrived in the long talked about city of Braavos. After years of talk, she finally lands at the doorstep of the faceless men's lair. On the other side of the world, we finally get our first look at Dorne and Austin, Daniel, and I discuss whether or not it lived up to Oberyn's hype. The House of Black and White was an episode of tough decisions as Daenerys wrestled with her biggest challenge yet and Jon was forced to choose between the spot as Lord Commander of the Night's Watch or the next King in the North. We argue the merits of these big decisions and how they will shape the episodes ahead. The season opener of Game of Thrones may have gotten off to a slow start, but The House of Black and White really kicks things into high gear. Don't miss it! After a ten month hiatus, HBO's hit series Game of Thrones has finally returned and it seems the land of Westeros is starting to look like a very different place. No matter the difference in power players, The Cast Beyond the Wall has returned to talk the biggest twists from the latest episode. In this week's discussion we recap the somewhat polarizing season 5 premiere featuring a totally broken Tyrion Lannister and the recently mentorless Daenerys Targaryen. To kick off the season, we talk about the first flashback in Game of Thrones history and what it could means for Cersei's seemingly bleak future as Queen of Westeros. We try to decide the nature of the prophecy at hand and whether or not Margery is really the queen predicted to bring the Lannisters down. In The Wars to Come, Varys reveals his true allegiance and makes a proposition to Tyrion that could change the outcome of the entire show. I talk details with Daniel and Austin before begging the question of whether or not it really changes the game. With Tyrion being pointed to Daenerys, are we in for the show's most powerful team up yet? In the north, Jon is forced by Stannis to win the loyalty of Mance Rayder and his wildling armies to his cause. We lay out Mance's dilemma and talk the future implications of Jon's actions. The Wars to Come may be a slow burn set up episode, but there's no shortage of things to discuss on this week's episode of The Cast Beyond the Wall. Game of Thrones season 4 has been a runaway roller coaster and it all culminated in last week’s finale, “The Children”, when showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss delivered the greatest Father’s Day gift HBO has ever seen. Now, The Cast Beyond the Wall has returned and is here to talk about all of the game-changing deaths that were carried out in the epic finale. Austin, Daniel, and I start off by debating whether or not Stannis should have made his surprise appearance last week before we talk about all of the exciting possibilities of a Jon Snow/Stannis team-up. Elsewhere, Mance Rayder is finally back and it looks like his true motives may have been revealed. Further North, Bran finally arrives to see the long foreshadowed Three-Eyed Crow and the reveal is equal parts baffling and shocking. In the south, Arya and the Hound run into the old fan-favorites Brienne and Podrick for one of the best fights in Game of Thrones history. That’s not all, though, as everyone’s favorite Mother of Dragons and Breaker of Chains continues to learn hard lessons now that one of her dragons has killed a child, and in one of the saddest moments of the season so far, Daenerys is forced to lock her pets in chains to protect her people. Has her luck finally run out? Meanwhile, in King’s Landing, Tywin is having a rough Father’s Day as Cersei spills the beans on her affairs with Jaime, and Tyrion gives him a surprise visit while he’s on the toilet. “The Children” gave us a number of deaths, too, with Jojen, Shae and Tywin all being taken off the map. How will this change the world of Westeros and how will the Lannisters maintain their power? Tune in for the latest episode of The Cast Beyond the Wall to find out! |

It’s been four years in the making, but the Wildlings have finally made it to the wall for one of the most epic battles in TV history. We apologize for the lateness, folks, but The Cast Beyond the Wall has arrived just in time to discuss this climactic and hugely polarizing episode of Game of Thrones! Austin, Daniel, and I are joined by a former professor and avid Thrones fan Mark Pickens to weigh in on whether or not there’s any hope for Sam as the Thenns attack. This week’s episode revs up the epic scope to an eleven as it tries to give the unforgettable “Blackwater” a run for its money as the most bombastic Game of Thrones episode yet! Swords will clash and blades will bleed as Mark and Austin argue Sam’s newfound meaning and leadership while Daniel and I can’t seem to agree on how well the battle ended. And all of us try to decide whether we cared enough about Ygritte to mourn her cheesy and anti-climatic death. Director Neil Marshall returns to the director’s chair and brings his creativity and love of wWildling killing Night’s Watch cooks along with him. Did I mention that there were also giants riding mammoths? Is this the best episode of the show yet? Is there any hope for Samwell Tarly? Most importantly, will Janos Slynt ever come out of the closet to confront the giants? Tune in and join us on this week’s episode of The Cast Beyond the Wall to find out! |

It’s been a long wait, but the hugely anticipated fight between the Mountain and the Viper came to pass in epic fashion and The Cast Beyond the Wall is here to see it through by giving the legendary Oberyn Martell a worthy sendoff. It’s been eight episodes in the making and the question that everyone wants answered is: does the fight live up to its reputation? We look at that very question and dive right into it, but before we get to the TV fight of the decade, we discuss many of this week’s series-altering events. The jig is up and Jorah’s early spy games have been revealed. In true Game of Thrones fashion, the reveal is swift and painful for the ever loyal bear knight and we debate whether Dany’s ethics really make sense. Elsewhere, The Vale is getting a twist as Sansa steps up to reveal herself as a force to be reckoned with. Has she finally learned how to use her skills and talents? Will Littlefinger fall head over heels for her? Things are heating up as this shadow player makes his next move toward the throne. Next week’s episode, The Watchers on the Wall, is preparing for something truly epic and we head north to see how all of the dominoes, including the Boltons, are being set up for the season endgame. |

It may have been an off week in Westeros, but The Cast Beyond the Wall sleeps for no man! This week, we discuss our theories for some of the biggest Game of Thrones mysteries. Austin, Daniel, and I talk about Jon Snow’s mother, the end game of the series and the mystery of Bran’s role in the Song of Ice and Fire. If you’re interested in the magic of Game of Thrones, or Melissandre’s mysterious connection to Rh’llor the Lord of Light, then this is the show for you. After our Westeros history lesson and fan theorizing, we talk about this week’s biggest Game of Thrones casting news. It may not be confirmed, but a lengthy list of characters that are up for a casting call has been leaked, and Oberyn fans will have plenty to talk about with the bulk of the list being Dorne’s royalty. Win or lose, it looks like House Martell will dominate the screen in season five. It’s been a long wait to see the battle between Gregor “The Mountain” Clegane and Oberyn “The Viper” Martell, and we pass this final day of waiting by talking about all of our biggest questions. Did we mention that our time away from Westeros has led us to an epic Skyrim vacation? Tune in and don’t forget to submit your favorite theories and your reactions to tonight’s epic Game of Thrones face-off. |

On this week’s The Cast Beyond The Wall, our Game of Thrones podcast, Austin, Daniel, and I are here to discuss the Baelish themed episode, “Mockingbird,” where my man crush levels hit insane amounts of dangerous as we talk about Lysa’s swan dive through the moon door. To crack things wide open, we begin by making long term predictions about where the series as a whole is heading. We then catch up with Dany, the Wall and the odd ongoings of Dragonstone. With the epic trial by combat looming in the not so distant future, we also take a look inside Tyrion’s cell as he tries to find a champion who can stand a chance against Cersei’s gargantuan: Gregor “The Mountain” Clegane. The Cast Beyond The Wall is back this week with guest host Dalton Stewart of Good Trash Genre Cast fame to discuss the newest episode of Game of Thrones, which features one of the most powerful and gut-wrenching moments of the entire series. In this week’s episode, we get our first glimpse into the much talked about the city of Braavos, where Stannis and Davos appeal to the Gringotts….I mean Iron Bank to fund a new army. There’s more though, as Austin is finally relieved to see the Greyjoys return as Yara charges Ramsey’s fort to take back her long lost brother, Theon, and Daenerys learns that ruling a kingdom isn’t all it’s cracked up to be as her dragons begin taking down goats. To close out, we discuss Peter Dinklage’s Emmy class speech that had all our jaws on the floor as he pleaded for a trial by combat to prove his innocence. |

Cercei continues her political masterminding as she visits each of Tyrion's judges before the big trial begins. Is everyone's favorite dwarf finally backed into a corner even he can't talk his way out of? Lastly, we make sure not to miss a beat in the North's unmapped territory as Bran and Jon come ever closer to that Stark reunion we'll never get to have. Oh yeah, when did Jon versus Karl Tanner turn into Mortal Kombat? Tune in to hear all our thoughts and hear your questions answered!

This week, Caleb, Daniel, and Austin are joined by guest host Ben Friend to discuss the adrenaline-filled follow-up to the Purple Wedding. Among other things, we talk about the hugely controversial Jaime and Cersei scene that’s had the whole internet buzzing, and we get hyper-analytical to discuss Game of Thrones‘ treatment of women and misogyny in general. Also, now that characters like Littlefinger are back in play, Ben and Austin take another jab at solving the great mystery of Joffrey’s assassin. Last but certainly not least, we all gawk at Daenerys’ brilliant strategy to take on the slave-filled city of Meereen. Is Tywin the man to follow? Is there any hope to redeem Stannis Baratheon? Is Game of Thrones channeling the Star Wars prequels with its inclusion of the Iron Bank? Tune in to hear our full discussion and answers to all your submitted questions in this week’s episode of The Cast Beyond the Wall! |
